The Department of Mental Health Nursing, Paavai College of Nursing and Research, Namakkal, organized a webinar titled “Beyond the Crisis: Early Recognition and Management of Psychiatric Emergencies” on 3rd September 2026.

The session was delivered by Prof. Nandakumar S, Professor-cum-Vice Principal, Department of Mental Health Nursing, KMCH College of Nursing, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. The programme focused on the importance of early recognition, rapid assessment, and timely management of psychiatric emergencies.

The resource person discussed various aspects of psychiatric emergencies, including common psychiatric emergencies, early warning signs, suicide risk assessment, aggressive and violent behaviour, acute psychosis, crisis intervention, patient safety, therapeutic communication, and de-escalation techniques. The important role of psychiatric nurses in assessment, emergency interventions, medication administration, patient monitoring, documentation, and multidisciplinary care was also emphasized.

A total of 120 B.Sc. Nursing students and 10 faculty members actively participated in the webinar. The session was informative and interactive, enabling the participants to strengthen their knowledge and confidence in recognizing and effectively managing psychiatric emergencies.

The programme concluded with a note of appreciation to the resource person and all the participants for their active involvement and valuable contribution towards the successful conduct of the webinar.
