The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Paavai College of Nursing and Research, Namakkal, organized a webinar titled “Oncology Emergencies Unveiled: Early Detection, Rapid Intervention and Safe Care” on 7th September 2026.
The session was delivered by Prof. Sri Rajeswari R, M.Sc. (N), Professor-cum-HOD, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Oxford College of Nursing and Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. She explained the importance of early detection, rapid intervention, and safe care in the effective management of oncological emergencies.
The resource person discussed the definition of oncological emergencies and their early recognition, along with the classification of emergencies into metabolic, haematological, structural, and treatment-related emergencies. She highlighted the identification of red-flag symptoms requiring immediate escalation and explained priority nursing actions using the ABCDE approach and focused assessment. She also discussed safe-care principles for common oncological emergencies. The vital role of medical-surgical nurses in patient assessment, rapid clinical intervention, medication safety, continuous monitoring, documentation, and multidisciplinary care was also emphasized.
A total of 120 B.Sc. Nursing students and 10 faculty members actively participated in the webinar. The session was informative and interactive, helping the participants strengthen their knowledge and confidence in recognizing and effectively managing oncological emergencies.
The programme concluded with a note of appreciation to the resource person and all the participants for their active involvement and valuable contribution towards the successful conduct of the webinar.
